Bamboo fencing cannot stand on its own. It is designed to be attached to an existing fence or structure -- often, it is used to cover a chain-link fence to add aesthetic value and privacy to an outdoor living space. Bamboo fencing, if not used for privacy, can also be used to dress up a plain stone wall, add interest to a garden, or even keep hungry animals out of the vegetables -- place it over a chicken wire fence and no small animals will be able to squeeze through it. Although bamboo fences cannot be painted, care is easy -- all you have to do is hose it down occasionally to make sure molds and algae don't get a foothold on the wood.
